AG Scientific Okadaic Acid Potassium Salt, 1 MG

Okadaic acid potassium salt is an inhibitor of PP-1 and PP-2A phosphatase proteins which occurs naturally as a neurotoxin. By inhibiting these proteins, okadaic acid causes an increase in myosin phosphorylation, inducing contraction of affected smooth muscle tissues. The acid was initially discovered in marine sponges of the genus Halichondria but can also be found in toxic shellfish. Our Okadaic acid is isolated from Prorocentrum concavum.
Owing to its ability to inhibit them, okadaic acid is used to identify phosphatases. In experiments examining the role of phosphorylation in pathological conditions, okadaic acid is used as a chemical probe for the process that can easily permeate cells. The acid has also been shown to promote both the growth of tumors and angiogenesis.
