During the cell cycle, topoisomerase IIα is expressed in the G1, S, G2, and M phase but is absent in the G (quiescent) phase.1 Assessment of the proportion of positive staining cells for topoisomerase IIα may aid in evaluation of the proliferative activity of normal and/or neoplastic tissue.2,3,4 The clinical interpretation of any staining, or the absence of staining, must be complemented by morphological studies and evaluation of proper controls.
